Jyothi Surekha Vennam Gets Silver After Mexico's Bernal Fails Doping Test

Jyothi Surekha Vennam left the 2025 Archery World Cup Final in Nanjing believing she'd taken third. Turns out, she's second. World Archery revised the compound women's standings after stripping Mexico's Marina Bernal of her result — a positive test for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, flagged from an out-of-competition sample collected September 29, 2025. The governing body cited WAF Rule 3 in the disqualification.

Bernal is 23. She didn't fight the finding. Her ban runs at least through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and every competitive result attached to her name gets erased. That pushes Jyothi up to silver. Great Britain's Ella Gibson inherits bronze. The Archery Association of India confirmed the revised standings went official Monday.

Jyothi's already onto the next thing. She's named in India's compound women's squad heading to World Cup Stage 4 in Madrid, competing alongside Taniparthi Chikitha, Prithika Pradeep, and Parneet Kaur.
